Russian Snacks - Fish biltong
A new Russian supermarket "Russkij Bazaar" has opened up on Cambridge Heath Road, East London The array of sausages/salamis etc caught my eye, and a i had good look around last night.
There are a whole new world of strange looking meat products. Some of them looked decidedly dodgy if I'm honest!, but there are a few really interesting bits and pieces.
They had at least 4 different types of roll-mops, which is fantastic news for me. They also have great fresh rye bread which was surprisingly cheap.
The reason for the post, however is that they have lots of Russian fishy snacks. They are very odd looking, but right up my street. I came away with some sprats, some dried Blue-Whiting, the Rye bread & some roll-mops. The Russian lady who runs the shop was amused by me not knowing what to do with the dried whiting. "We love it with the beer!"
I did a bit of digging about and found this site that lists a load of other Russian snacks. I'm going to go back soon and try some other stuff.
I love the description of their "Rings of Dried Squid"
We present you a light snack to any beer! Taste this dried squid prepare by the unique tecnology which let them juicy and pulpy! You have an excellent chance to appreciate its originality!

Apparently there are 26 Russian stores in East London alone. Excellent, another adventure!
